About the Symposium

The Inspiration:

The Creative Arts – dance/movement, visual arts, music, drama, poetry and expressive arts continue to expand globally to connect, inspire and shape our lives on personal and professional levels.  Many who work directly with the Creative Arts ground their approaches and processes in clinical environments, research, education and use the arts as a vehicle for self-transformation. By expanding the forums through which the passion for the creative arts can be expressed, we help ensure the continued development of this exciting field.

The Purpose:

As a way of celebrating and supporting the work being done in the Creative Arts, the Somara Institute is hosting its annual Creative Arts Therapies Symposium located in the San Francisco Bay area in California. Other Symposia locations may be added in the future. If you would like to see the Somara Institute host a creative arts symposium in your area, please contact Margie Pulmano Torres at CATS@somarainstitute.org.

The Stucture:

The theme of our Symposium is Journey into the Imaginal Realm.  This event will allow two days of nurturing our on-going relationship with the Creative Arts among professionals, students, artists, educators and facilitators, as well as those interested in discovering the field.

Presentations are inspired by four main areas:

1. Creative Arts and Different Ways of Knowing
2. Creative Arts for Healing and Transformation
3. Creative Arts & Consciousness in Groups or Communities
4. Expressive Life Journeys using the Creative Arts

Who Should Attend:

The Creative Arts Therapies Symposium is designed to enrich and offer information for anyone using the Creative Arts in all levels of human development.

Professionals, Associates, Students and Creative-Minded People working within therapy, counseling, social work, executive & life coaching, education, leadership, artistic expression and self-awareness may benefit from their participation in this event.
